Vintage 1970's Medium Size Plates With Floral Motif

Having another small batch of vintage porcelain plates for cleaning has always been a pleasure any collector would vouch. It has always been the hunting, selecting, cleaning and cataloguing that provides all the fun. Plates that had been left untouched for the past 40 years in some corners of a building are always filled with dirt and lined with thicker corrugated cards. They were easily cleaned up after some soaking in water. All specks and clean after a quick bath and wash.

Porcelain Tea Cups With Ru Kiln Crackled Powdered Green Glaze

Comments: This cup is also made from the Ru Kiln type of glaze which I have commented in the previous 2 Gaiwans. They are just so simple and elegant to use in your tea drinking sessions. The natural crackled glaze may develop into beautiful crackled veins after some tea drinking sessions which made it very personal and seasoned to anyone who owns it. Just enjoy the simple pleasure.

Gaiwan/Gaibei With Crackled Ru Kiln Clear Cyan Blue Glaze

Code: P019
Price: RM130
Type: Gaiwan - Sunflower shape with Ru kiln type of light sky blue glaze. Ice vein crackled in glaze. Made in Taiwan.

Dimensions: H6.5cm x Capacity 150ml x Wt.300 (cup, cover & base plate)

Condition: New
Comments: Ru kiln was one of the finest kiln known in old Northern Song dynasty China. Wares made from the Ru kiln were known to be of the highest quality and specially made for the palace and its official's daily use only.

The gaiwan here uses the same type of glaze that was once used in the Ru kiln. Firing temperature is said to be very complicated and must be meticulously controlled and monitored and only small items can be fired.

This gaiwan is one of the higher quality type available beside other brands with differences in their prices. Many tea connoisseurs enjoy drinking tea from this type of gaiwan claiming much smoother aftertaste or level of astringency as compared to using other types of gaiwan or tea cups.
The overglaze has ice vein crackles and hence will develop into beautiful stained(from tea) crackles resembling golden veins or spider web strands. A very elegant and solid piece of ware.

Vintage Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Tea Cup

Code: P018 SOLD 2 pcs  21/04/2011

Type: Vintage Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Tea Cups
Age: Unknown
Dimensions: Wt.<90gm> x D7cm x H5.5cm x Capacity 80ml
Condition: As per pix here. No breakage or severe chips except some old oxide stains.
Comments: Was informed that the cups were probably made in late Ching dynasty. Each cup is individually hand drawn and made most probably from the folks kiln (min yao). May notice slight difference in sizes. Noted some sporadic iron oxide stain on parts of cups. The apparent finger-tip size non-glazed area at the bottom of the cup was held by the kiln worker during the glaze dipping process.

Vintage Chinese Porcelain Blue & White Tea Cup For Viewing Only

Code: P017
The tea cup here appears old and it is challenging to determine its age from the shape, motif used, contemporary style, bubble analysis, the types of blue glaze and which kiln, methodology of kiln burning used etc. Wow, such a long list of things to know but surely you have to read up a lot before venturing into chinese porcelain.
Collecting smaller porcelain items is a good start into this challenging area. Each item can easily prompt you to further your research into the respective kiln and dynasty period and before long one can have a good grasp of the type of porcelain produced from each period.
Since there are so many types of porcelain ware, it is recommended to focus on certain types that are appealing to you or possibly those that you can use or see them in your daily use.
Further down the road, one can focus deeper into it by analysing their motif for each period, their style and glaze used and so forth. The internet is a good place to do your preliminary research though most of them are in mandarin. I am still learning about all there is to learn about porcelain and enjoying it every minute. I hope you can enjoy them too. Cheers!
